Cognitive behavioral counseling for drug & alcohol addiction

Substance use, encompassing drug and alcohol dependence, touches every facet of our community, regardless of age, socioeconomic status, or profession. At PHW, we offer personalized outpatient counseling services, providing one-on-one support for individuals seeking assistance with drug and alcohol challenges.

SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELING

Nobody should have to face substance depence alone

We offer substance use counseling as a stand-alone service, that is a self-pay program, with a flexible/sliding scale (not covered by insurance). Depending on the level of impact, a person may need both therapy and substance use to support their healing journey.

However, many of our therapists have dual training in mental health and addiction issues where your therapist can address substance use issues during a mental health session which is covered by insurance.

Understanding drug addiction & substance abuse

  • Substance abuse disorders

Substance abuse, also known as substance misuse or substance use disorders, refers to the excessive and harmful use of drugs or alcohol. It is a complex condition that affects a person's mental health and overall well-being.

  • Alcohol abuse

Alcohol abuse, a form of substance misuse, involves the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages leading to negative physical, mental, and social consequences.

It's a multifaceted issue that impacts not only the individual's health but also their relationships and functioning in daily life. Effective intervention and support are crucial for addressing alcohol abuse and promoting long-term recovery and wellness.

  • Signs and symptoms

People struggling with addiction may display various signs and symptoms.

    These can include:

    Changes in behavior or mood

Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home

Engaging in risky behaviors to obtain drugs or alcohol

Experiencing withdrawal symptoms when attempting to stop using substances

  • The impact on mental health

Drug addiction and substance abuse can have a significant impact on an individual's mental health. Substance use disorders often coexist with other mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder.

  • Seeking help from an addiction counselor

If you or someone you know is struggling with drug addiction or substance abuse, it is essential to seek help from a qualified addiction counselor. An addiction counselor specializes in providing support, guidance, and counseling for individuals dealing with substance use disorders.

  • Personalized Treatment Plans

An addiction counselor will work closely with each individual to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to their specific needs. These plans may include individual counseling sessions, group counseling, support groups, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and other evidence-based interventions.

We do not prescribe medications at our center.

Maximizing treatment: effectiveness of drug addiction counseling

  • Quality counseling services play a vital role in helping individuals overcome drug addiction. Our drug and alcohol abuse counseling services are designed to provide comprehensive care and support to those seeking recovery.

  • One of the key aspects of effective drug addiction counseling is the development of personalized treatment plans. Each individual's journey towards recovery is unique, and a tailored approach ensures that their specific needs are addressed. By considering factors such as the type and severity of addiction, co-occurring mental health disorders, and personal circumstances, therapists can create a treatment plan that maximizes the chances of success.

  • Our practice stands alongside individuals engaged in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) programs, recognizing their commitment to recovery. While we do not prescribe medications, we offer comprehensive support to complement MAT, emphasizing therapy and holistic approaches for sustained well-being.

In many cases, MAT is utilized to support individuals during their recovery journey. MAT involves the use of FDA-approved medications alongside therapy to manage withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and prevent relapse. This evidence-based approach has shown promising results in improving treatment outcomes.

  • Every individual has different preferences and needs. It's important to find a treatment program that aligns with one's values and goals. Factors such as location, cost, duration of treatment, therapeutic approaches used, and aftercare services should be considered when selecting a program that feels like a good fit.

Substance use counseling: drug and alcohol counseling

Addiction counseling services play a crucial role in helping individuals overcome their struggles with addiction. Here are some key reasons why these services are so important:

  • Addiction counselors provide professional guidance and support to individuals who are battling addiction. They have the knowledge and expertise to help clients navigate the challenges they face during their recovery journey. By working closely with a counselor, individuals can gain valuable insights into the root causes of their addiction and develop coping strategies to overcome cravings and triggers.

  • One of the significant advantages of addiction counseling services is that they offer individualized treatment plans. Counselors take into account each client's unique needs, circumstances, and goals when designing a personalized plan for their recovery. This tailored approach ensures that individuals receive the specific support they need to address their addiction effectively.

  • Relapse is often a concern for those in recovery from addiction. Addiction counseling equips individuals with essential tools and strategies to prevent relapse effectively. Therapists help clients identify potential triggers, develop healthy coping mechanisms, and create relapse prevention plans tailored to their specific needs.
